Family dinner

Life on the farm is a wonderful experience but during the cold wintery months, it can go all Shining on you in a snap.  No one wants to get so isolated that you go down the path of Jack Nicholson’s character in that movie so it’s important to socialize in order to avoid that whole going crazy scenario.  There are several ways of doing this but our preferred method is to just pick an unsuspecting person and invite ourselves over.  If I do this in a really excited happy voice they will usually say yes because you’re conveying to them that it’ll be really really super fun to have the five of us descend on them and hang out at their house for the day.  Really!  It will SO be fun!  If you pick family members it’s even easier because they feel a little obligation and will say yes more often than strangers or acquaintences.  If they know my kids very well though, I sometimes have to throw in the offer of me bringing some delicious homecooked food and that’ll usually push them over the hesitating bridge pretty well.

Which is just what I did for Saturday’s dinner.

Saturday morning we headed down to my mother in law’s house and put everyone to work cleaning the house out.  I did my best to supervise and avoid any semblence of work but a few times, I actually had to do stuff.

After finishing, we all headed over to my brother and sister in law’s house where we unloaded enough food for an army then proceeded to make ourselves right at home for the next 9 hours.

Vern and Teressa were totally beside-themselves-thrilled!

Really, they were!

Christy started dipping into the pico de gallo as soon as she arrived —

Teressa mixed up homemade sauce —

— to put over a HUGE batch of chicken fajitas —

Natalie whipped up some guacamole —

She’s got a bun in the oven and finds out if it’s a boy or a girl on Monday!

Vern shoved poor little Christy out of the way and took over taste testing the pico de gallo —

She got up and shoved him back though, it was brutal man. Game on! Vern gave up and moved on though because look at that big huge freaking bowl of delicious-ness in the center of the table. Yeah, Christy brought that so she won the seat in front of the pico!

Natalie’s husband, Jason, has the sweetest brother named Chris who flew in just to eat my mexican feast and I thanked him by taking a picture of the back of his head. Love ya Chris!

It was about this time that everyone put me on ignore and started waving me away so they could eat.

That’s alright though because after they finished eating I did this —

Christy cut up a brownie then covered it with white chocolate pudding that also contained coffee and whip cream then tossed some Heath Bar sprinkles over it for good measure. I explained to everyone that I was doing a scientific study and needed to have two servings even though some of them never even got a taste of it. It was delicious and we decided that next time Christy should make a double batch or at least bring one just for me because by the time I was finished with it…….

…… well that’s just unacceptable.
