Goodbye summer, hello fall

Holy toledo it was 47′ when I went outside for coffee this morning!  I do think summer is finally over and other than a few remaining days in the mid-80’s we’re probably moving into fall.  I always wish we had trees on our farm that showed beautiful color in the fall, but we don’t.  They’re mostly elm or some other weird looking tree.  We do have one pretty cottonwood that has bright yellow leaves but that’s it.

I spent last night watching Ed build some contraption for the mowing to weigh down the disk harrow we have on it.  Unfortunately, his plan was brilliant and it worked.  I say unfortunately because you know what that means?  Yup, I’ll have no excuse not to perform the fall maintenance on the 16 acre pastures.  Hopefully I can spend a few hours each day out there and knock it out in a couple weeks.  And with the arrival of cooler temperatures it’s time to fire up the chainsaw and get rid of several dead trees around the house field.  Bonfires, soups, and a warm woodstove are all right around the corner.
